Harley fairing mounting

I finally got my fairing done, well except for the windshield. Here are some pics of how it is mounted and the finished product.

As most of you know, this is what I started with




I will skip the teardown because you all have seen it before.

I used these clamps to attach the brackets to the forks


Then made these adapters to attach the HD inner fairing brackets to the clamps




Then attached the HD brackets to my brackets

I bought a weathertight plug so the complete fairing can be removed.

The 5 1/4" speaker mounting was pretty straight forward, I bought the HD speaker adapters and simply bolted them in place. The 4" speakers were a different story, I wanted them mounted in the larger holes where the speedo and tach are supposed to be. I made this plate out of 16 ga. aluminum and fastened the speakers to it.






Then I attached it using a hole right above the idiot lights and some corner brackets attached to the side brackets. Sorry, for some reason I didn't get any pics of that.

Next up was a headlight extension, I needed about 3". I used a piece of aluminum I found hanging around, can't say where it came from. It is 1/2" thick and very solid.

The rest was just reassembling everything.

All the gauges are functional, as well as the idiot lights. I tried to get a pic of all the idiot lights on, but I couldn't get the timing right on the flashers


I followed directions from John from John's Old Iron on the gauge installation. No need to repeat it here.

I went for a short ride yesterday and I think I am gonna like it.

What kind of antenna did you use and how is it mounted?

Currently the antenna is simply a piece of wire tucked inside the fairing. It came with the mounting kit for the radio. It doesn't seem to be working very well, so I might come up with something else later. Right now I have a USB thumb drive with all of my music on it, so I will probably listen to it for a while.
